Sentencing in Colorado

"DV's" -- Domestic violence sentencing requirements:

Domestic offenses are not uncommon and like DUI's are one of the most frequent paths by which regular people come into contact with the criminal process.  A domestic offense usually involves a threat or actual assaultive behavior against a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife or other close family member.

All courts have established mechanisms for the arrest and prosecution of domestic accuseds, often to the detriment of the innocent.  For example, if you have been arrested for a domestic offense, you have likely been forced to remain in jail without bond until you saw a judge, kicked out of your home, prevented from seeing or contacting loved ones, and required to post bond before any impartial body has made a determination that you violated the law.

If convicted you will be required to participate in an extended treatment program, possibly serve a jail sentence, are ineligible for a deferred prosecution, are susceptible to felony punishment if a previous offender and are prohibited from owning or possessing firearm, a significant punishment if you historically have been a hunter or consider a weapon as important to you or your families self defense.
