Sentencing in Colorado
The hard facts about drug offenses.
The most common serious criminal offenses involve drugs -- cocaine, methamphetamine, heroine, ecstasy, and marijuana. The maximum sentence that could be given for these offenses vary from the relatively non-serious, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, punishable by only a fine, to more draconian consequences for sales of drugs, resulting frequently in lengthy prison sentences.
Occasionally, exceptional sentences can result when offenders enter drug rehabilitation. However, a skilled attorney must be vigilant in recognizing that many of these offenses contain ramifications against driver's licenses, student loan, immigration, and future employment opportunities.
